I have had so many times were I wanted to sit down and write so now i finally got around to actually doing it!
So in last post i spoke about my first full week..Didn't really explain about anything i am doing so now i will,
We have a few jobs here in CT. We are apart of a bigger group of Israelis that are here as well representing in the different communities here. So one of our jobs is to go into the schools and into the classes of the Jewish history and kinda teach informally about Israel.
Its really fun, the classes are small some more talkative and active than others but its fun to represent Israel in this way.
Its crazy how these kids are in class, they sit and sit barely open their mouths in class and the SECOND the bell goes off they are up and out... I have never seen anything like it. We could be in middle of a sentence- doesn't matter that bell went off they are gone... Its the funniest thing.
We are also joining a program that does Jewish things in school informally, like batmitzva classes after davening with the girls, or davening, we want to start challah baking just to bring more Judaism into the school that is losing it.
Besides the schools..Which we split our time between 5 of them at the moment we are working with Bnei akiva.
TRYING to make Bnei more "in". Its going through a hard time now, not a lot of kids signed up for camp, not a lot of money, not that many madrichim (counselors) so we need to keep the movement going.
ITS HARD!! right now everyone we are supposed to be working with is taking exams in university so for now we don't really know who to work with, also we have so many ideas but its so hard to start... so this now is our biggest challenge. GET PEOPLE INVOLVED and get it moving....
Its tiring, draining, hard, frustrating, confusing...but at the same time, exciting, new, fulfilling...
Slowly, Slowly we will get things moving, After camp will be easier because everyone will be done exams...but until then its gonna be a hard slow process....
Besides that, This weekend i was in Port Elizabeth an hour flight from Capetown. Stayed at Sandra and Rabbi Shmuel Bloch!!!! so crazy that to girls from Lowell ended up in the same place in South Africa! I went their to promote the bnei akiva camp and to meet the Jewish kids that are there....
was an experience and had a very good time seeing Sandra and her kids again!
Got to see penguins and get the real South Africa experience and drive through a mini game reserve! WAS A-MA-ZING!
anyways...just had to share my thoughts... Missing home A LOT but thank g-d for technology i can whatsapp and skype and call...
I love hearing from everyone..even with the amazing community here i do miss my family and friends!
