It's deffinitely a challenge
I have had so many times were I wanted to sit down and write so now i finally got around to actually doing it!
So in last post i spoke about my first full week..Didn't really explain about anything i am doing so now i will,
We have a few jobs here in CT. We are apart of a bigger group of Israelis that are here as well representing in the different communities here. So one of our jobs is to go into the schools and into the classes of the Jewish history and kinda teach informally about Israel.
Its really fun, the classes are small some more talkative and active than others but its fun to represent Israel in this way.
Its crazy how these kids are in class, they sit and sit barely open their mouths in class and the SECOND the bell goes off they are up and out... I have never seen anything like it. We could be in middle of a sentence- doesn't matter that bell went off they are gone... Its the funniest thing.
We are also joining a program that does Jewish things in school informally, like batmitzva classes after davening with the girls, or davening, we want to start challah baking just to bring more Judaism into the school that is losing it.
Besides the schools..Which we split our time between 5 of them at the moment we are working with Bnei akiva.
TRYING to make Bnei more "in". Its going through a hard time now, not a lot of kids signed up for camp, not a lot of money, not that many madrichim (counselors) so we need to keep the movement going.
ITS HARD!! right now everyone we are supposed to be working with is taking exams in university so for now we don't really know who to work with, also we have so many ideas but its so hard to start... so this now is our biggest challenge. GET PEOPLE INVOLVED and get it moving....
Its tiring, draining, hard, frustrating, confusing...but at the same time, exciting, new, fulfilling...
Slowly, Slowly we will get things moving, After camp will be easier because everyone will be done exams...but until then its gonna be a hard slow process....
Besides that, This weekend i was in Port Elizabeth an hour flight from Capetown. Stayed at Sandra and Rabbi Shmuel Bloch!!!! so crazy that to girls from Lowell ended up in the same place in South Africa! I went their to promote the bnei akiva camp and to meet the Jewish kids that are there....
was an experience and had a very good time seeing Sandra and her kids again!
Got to see penguins and get the real South Africa experience and drive through a mini game reserve! WAS A-MA-ZING!
anyways...just had to share my thoughts... Missing home A LOT but thank g-d for technology i can whatsapp and skype and call...
I love hearing from everyone..even with the amazing community here i do miss my family and friends!

First FULL week!
I think this was the first full week without any Chagim in between. Was a busy week, was at the schools just visiting kids and gave a few classes. This week was full of interesting stories, Ron Arad was captured, Nachshon wachsman was killed, and gilad shalit was let out. We gave a class for the 10th and 11th graders on the different ways that Israel acted in each case and what they did for each of these soldiers. A complicated topic but was very interesting!
I am going for physical therapy on Monday cuz my back is still bugging me, of course back pains never go untreated in the Solomont home.... So have an appointment for Monday!
Today we went to the South African museum, about the different tribes, all bunch of different animals, fish, minerals, dinosaurs.. was very interesting even though i am not the museum type!
Yesterday i went to a cricket game, such a weird game!! especially coming from baseball...weird game but we were there for the experience! was fun!
The weather all of sudden became wintery again even though the beginning of the week it was BEAUTIFUL i even finally turned of the wall heater in my room but now i had to turn it back oN! rainy and windy.... the wind is crazy!! at night it sounds like our house is going to blow away!!
anyways, Shabbat is soon.... excited to rest, this was a tiring beginnings are never so easy =) still getting used to it all!

and the work goes on...
Felling good Baruch Hashem =) The community was so caring and worried we were both looked after and thank g-d felling better!
The weather here had been crazy! was so so nice over shabbat and then Sunday and Monday have been SO windy! I am in my room and it sounds like the house is gonna blow over! These south Africans weren't joking when they told us the weather here is crazy!
Today had a class in the high school we are taking over for one of the Hebrew teachers and doing a class about Israel. It will hopefully be a good class, we are trying to work on a curriculum now "Israel through an Israelis eyes" something along those lines... First class was successful so hopefully they all will be!
An amazing thing about this community is that we can walk into anyones house and feel at home. Everyplace we go we have been given such a warm feeling that we really make ourselves comfortable no matter what! Really helps build a connection with kids and families when you feel so comfortable!
Made supper tonight cooked and ate at home by ourselves! was so cute and nice =) I love that i know how to take random things in the kitchen and put together a meal! I learned from the best ;-)

A small BUMP in the road...
Sooo here is the big story, but before i write about that just wanna update about chag, 2 day chag!
Was very nice, Shani and I hosted a meal at the house that we cooked! Everyone was amazed that we can cook and that it came out so good =) Being in the kitchen every Friday with my mommy paid off! Made our house feel more like home!
Anyways, I am sure most of you heard that I was involved in a car accident yesterday. Shani and I drove one of the boys that came from Joburg to CapeTown for chag to the airport and then we were planning on going to a meeting but apparently that's not what Hashem had in mind.
I was driving on the high way in the middle lane, (1st nes-) I had just slowed down because the car in front of me slowed down as well, and then all i really remember is the LOUD boom and CRUNCH sound... feeling pain in my back and neck and just breathing deeply telling myself i am okay still not sure what was going on...
As soon as the car stopped Shani kept telling me to calm down, which was just her way to calm herself down and then we both started to laugh. I guess the was instead of bursting into tears.
Still confused i put the car into park because i wasn't able to move the car to the side and i had NO IDEA what the damage was to us or the car!
Soo from all the movies that i watch or just in general from things you learn and hear, when you get into an accident and you're hurt the best thing to do is to stay still. The man that hit me came to my door and asked if we were okay and i told him I think so (not even knowing really what to say to him)
He had called the police already (nes #2-) there was another accident a few miles behind us so the police and ambulance were there within minutes which we were told doesnt usually happen in SA.
ANYWAYS, what was going through my head?? i just got into an accident, in a country i don't live in. No idea what happened to the car, My parents aren't here, i dono if i am okay, just have NO IDEA...
SO i called Yaniv who is a shaliach of the Jewish agency and is in charge of us here in Capetown, we were on our way to a meeting with him... told him that I THINK we just got into an accident and then of course started to cry. He got into his car right away and came to be with us...
K so meanwhile... the ambulance came - put a neck brace on me and put me onto a stretcher into the ambulance and to the closest hospital. (Shani too)
Yaniv met us there....helped a lot that he was there because who wants to be in a foreign country in a hospital without anyone you know.
I still really didn't know what had happened so Yaniv told me that the guy in the right lane swerved into my lane in order not to hit the guy in front of him who stopped short, didn't see me and hit me hard, we spun ( I think) and hit the car in front of us.... So we got the biggest bang.. I think the other people were okay.
Once we got to the Hospital we waited around a bit, i was soo uncomfortable, in a neck brace staring up at the ceiling. They sent me in for X-rays. I got a whole bunch of X-rays and then Thank god, really BARUCH HASHEM the results were good. Both of us okay with NO broken bones.
shocked and shaken up a bit, sore back and neck but THATS IT!
Such a miracle.
I keep repeating that BOOM in my head, remember shutting my eyes and just saying to myself breath everything is ok, everything is ok....(not really knowing though if everything was)
Even though its weird to say Hashem really must have had a plan. We are both so so lucky that we are alive, barely even a bruise.
I am basically writing this also to just get it out but also to share this experience with people i love.
Was traumatic, especially to go through it alone without Mommy and Abba by my side.
The community was unbelievable, we stayed at one of our adopted families houses and were just spoiled. people brought over food, chocolate, called, and really really cared.
Me being the driver I felt really bad but everyone made it very clear to me that it was NOT my fault and that i am not being blamed.
Hopefully as soon as i get a car I will be able to get back on the road and drive again, like Abba always says its not the driving you have to be afraid of.....
Sooo hopefully that should be our biggest bump in the road. we have been through the worst now it can only get better.
We have a follow up tomorrow with a PT so that will be good, and otherwise we are resting for now,.
We will bench gomel at shul on Shabbat, and otherwise i really just keep thanking hashem for the nes he has done for us!
I always say that i am such a good driver why would i ever get into an accident, and now you really just see how all these things are completely out of any of our hands... Just crazy how life works....
Its good to know i have so many people who care about me!
Gotta learn to take advantage of life.... never know what crazy stepping stones you will have along the way....
Thats my story...Glad i am able to share it with everyone...
Shabbat Shalom... bisorot tovot =)

Starting to work!
Wednesday was in Herzelia Constantia... Finally drove there without getting lost every time we try to get somewhere we end up in the complete opposite area but we are getting much better at recognizing the streets now!
We did a sukkot activity for 6 different classes grades 4-6. it was great!
We have only been here 2 weeks and we have had so many parties/ events at the house already its so great =)
We had a BRAAI (bbq) with all the different youth movements together, was really nice to meet other people from the other movements. South Africans LOVE to braai!
Friday we had a meeting with the principle of all the Herzelia schools. There are 10 schools in Capetown 15000 Jews and 85% of them are at those schools so it is for sure the place to be. The high school and Middle school are located ON table mountain. Its unbelievable! Just breath taking!
Had a meeting with him about our jobs as Israelis. How important it is for us to show these kids that Israel isn't just what they hear and see on the news, that it is much more than that.
Israel through an Israelis eyes!
Its going to be tough, South Africans have a hard time being on the "right wing" point of view or Zionist point at all because of the Apartheid that was in SA. During that time the Palestinian side helped SA a lot and they feel like they have to somehow give back. A lot of South Africans still think Israel is an apartheid state. if they think that, that's what the news says, and that's what the kids think. So we are up against a lot, but its an interesting challenge.
The beauty here as i said is unbelievable, you don't know whether to look at the mountains, the ocean, the clear beautiful sky. It really is scary to think how people here have such good lives. They all have maids, Most people live in big houses and the ones who don't the houses are still average and beautiful. Its a beautiful place, there is kosher food. WHY WOULD THEY WANT TO LEAVE.
If i lived here i wouldn't want to go anywhere! As an Israeli shlicha its such a scary thought!
Israel is beautiful, and now i realize what a different beauty it is.
Its holy....the air feels like home. Even though the scenery here is breath taking I still know that Israel has something special. I feel like a stranger here, but in Israel no matter were you are you feel home and that definitely became more clear to me now because you can easily forget that because of this incredible beauty!
Anyways, just a funny story:
We have a white board in our bathroom and Shani and i always right funny random notes to each other. So after the first time OUR maid cleaned up I wrote as a joke to Shani Thanks Ruth for cleaning our bathroom we love you! not expecting her to even pay attention to it! the next day after she cleaned i walked into the bathroom and she had responded to the note!!!!!!
second story...In the teachers room at one of the schools after i drank my coffee i went to wash out my cup and they all laughed at me and told me that in South Africa "we don't do dishes" hahaha!!

Sukkot
First "2 day" chag in the galut ;-)
Was in Constantia which is about half an hour away from Sea Point were i live. So first day was there and walked about an hour to Claremont which is the town next to it.
Was such a nice chag, at every shul we go to we are welcomed!
Ate at nice families.. SUCH good food =)
and of course the maids, it takes sooo much to get used to..no dishes, when you leave your room and come back your bed is set, the maids do everything!
I still think its weird and feel like i am in the movie "the help"
Tomorrow we are going to the school the first time and doing a sukka activity for 6th grade!
our first activity in the school!
Had a wonderful chag! Missed being in my sukkah at home with my family singing and having fun but its all the experience!

week #1
First week in CT coming to an end!
I don't think i have ever seen anything so beautiful EVER! Every direction you turn is prettier than the first =)
The weather here is crazy. They say that if you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes...and its true- everyday goes from hot to cold to rainy to cold again.. its nuts!
Yom kippur was very nice, was in shul by 8:10 which is crazy for me i think that was the first time i was ever there for EVERYTHING! was very nice actually! missed being in shul with Abbas davening and standing next to Mommy and my sisters but was still a nice davening!
Everyone here is just so nice! so far we have been having meeting with people that we will be working with this year (still don't know names and what i will be doing ;-)) and today we DROVE! Other side of the road and everything! even in the rain! was an experience...we are getting used to the roads and directions and stuff like that!
Today after our meeting at the Jewish agency we went to a cheese factory.. missed my Abba!
That is basically it...there is a store here called pick and pay which is very much like old navy so i am happy! and there is pineapple and blueberries so so far so good =)
Shabbat we are eating out both meals, of course! Haven't even had dinner at home yet people keep inviting us out and then chag we are in the next town over...
Wrote much more than i thought i would just feel like i have so much to say!
will update again later =) xoxo thinking about everyone

My first time writing a blog! very exciting =) i really wanted to be able to keep family and friends updated in what is going on this year and decided this was the best way. I apologize ahead of time, me and spelling aren't the bestest of friends. Thank you spell check but just in case... i wanted to put that out on the table!!Anyways, I arrived in Joburg on Thursday. Got to stop by the edelmans and say hi which was very nice!!!So funny to see family in South Africa of all places =)
Got to Cape Town today, unfortunately its raining and cold so i havent yet seen the beauty that everyone has talked about so hopefully tomorrow it will clear up!
Got setteled in, hung up pictures and unpacked. The house is HUGE...it is the house for bnei akiva so its really big and there are 2 big rooms upstairs for me and Shani (my friend with me)
People here are so so nice. Everyone that came over said that they live close and would love to help out if we need anything and whoever didn't come texted or called. Such nice caring people its exciting to get welcomed like that.
Well its really late and i need to get up and start my first full day tomorrow so that's it for now. I will write when i can!!
